Sun Run 2022

The Sun Run on the Northern Beaches took place earlier this month and was the largest fun run in NSW since the pandemic began. This event was one of the rare events that also took place in 2020, 2021 and 2022 - an absolute miracle in COVID times. It wasn’t without challenges, with the event operators overcoming major obstacles to ensure 4000 runners could take the start line on Feb 5.

The Events industry is still at the peril of state Health Orders, restrictions and border closures. For the Sun Run alone the team had to factor:

  • 20% event staff contingency due to the risk of staff isolation/infection

  • Supplier resourcing issues

  • 10% increase in costs for additional COVID Safety Measures

  • Impact of participants requiring transfers due to isolation/infection

This is a huge reason why events continue with their struggle to return. The tourism events industry supports destinations across the country, that’s direct money into local business including jobs. Add on top community connection and social belonging, health and wellbeing and funds raised for charity and you can see why events are the starting point of a domino effect.

Congratulations to the Northern Beaches Council events team who made the Sun Run possible and for allowing the participants to raise over $70,000 for charity.
